We are eight weeks through the first quarter of 2025. In this quarter we are putting a special emphasis on self-care, and cultivation. How are you managing your stress and tension? How are you pouring into yourSELF?
As a reminder, here are some useful tips for decompression:
Breath Work

Breathwork exercises can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps the body relax and recover from stress. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing, box breathing, and 4-7-8 breathing are effective for this purpose. Diaphragmatic breathing involves inhaling deeply through the nose, feeling the stomach expand, and exhaling slowly through the nose, feeling the stomach lower.

Stretching

Stretching, particularly yoga stretching, has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which can help alleviate the psychological effects of stress and induce feelings of calmness and relaxation. A study published in PMC investigated the effects of yoga stretching on salivary stress hormones and parasympathetic nerve activity. It found that a 90-minute session of yoga stretching significantly enhanced parasympathetic nerve activity, and this beneficial effect was observed up to 60 minutes after the session.
By now you might have noticed a theme: the stimulation of the PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM!!!
This is an essential aim of my practice. I have found that focusing on the PSNS is a great way to "encourage" the body to release tension and stress.
I can only do so much. What you do outside of our sessions determines your overall quality of life. Exercise is great, watching TV can be a great way to take your mind off of work and the things that stress you. But how much energy do you put into actual DECOMPRESSION?
As we move into our second quarter and our second season, let's take the next five weeks to cultivate the healthy practices that will support a strong arrival into the Spring Season, Earth's True New Year!
